Japan Coast

Explore Japan's coastal side.

Just beyond Tokyo, the coastline opens up into a different pace of travel. In Kanagawa and Shizuoka, you’ll find historic towns, ocean views, and a quieter rhythm of everyday life. This journey brings together coastal scenery, local food, and time to slow down — all within easy reach of the city.

Follow Japan's Coast

Start in Kamakura, once Japan’s political center and still one of its most historically rich cities. Walk through temple-lined paths and quiet residential streets, where layers of the past are still very present.

Then shift into a different rhythm along Onari Dori, known for its local cafés, bakeries, and independent shops — a more relaxed, coastal side of Kamakura that locals gravitate toward.

It’s a compact but layered day, with great food, historic depth, and easy access to forest trails around Genjiyama Park, where paths open up toward the sea.

Continue along the coast to Enoshima, where the pace opens up and the sea takes center stage. Cross over to the island and explore its winding paths, seaside viewpoints, and tucked-away shrines, with ocean views never far away.

This is a more relaxed, open day — fresh seafood, coastal air, and time to wander. Stay for sunset if you can, when the coastline softens and the whole area takes on a different rhythm.
  • Head further south to Shizuoka, where the landscape opens up — with Mount Fuji on one side and the Pacific on the other. This is Japan’s tea country, and a slower, more grounded side of the journey.

Visit a tea farm, take in the surrounding countryside, and enjoy a relaxed lunch with views of Fuji when the weather allows. Later, walk along the pine-lined coast of Miho no Matsubara, where sea, forest, and sky come together in one of Japan’s most iconic natural scenes.

The final stretch unfolds in the Izu Peninsula, where rugged coastline, quiet towns, and dramatic scenery define the end of your journey.

Explore volcanic landscapes like Mount Omuro, walk along the cliffs of Jogasaki, and follow the coastline at your own rhythm. Stay in a traditional ryokan, soak in an ocean-view onsen, and enjoy the region’s simple, deeply local dishes.

It’s a gentle ending — a chance to slow down and take it all in before returning home.
